Mother’s Day Feature With Alina Vasylyeva

Alina Vasylyeva is a mom to a handsome young man. Raising her son has taught her a lot about life and she has some advice to share from her experience.
“I love being a best friend and life-coach to my son. One of the most important things I’ve learned from motherhood is that you have to play different roles, meaning not just being a parents or guardian, sometimes you just need to be a friend to your child. This way they feel as though they can trust you and rely on you not to judge or punish them in any life situation no matter what. Even though I am a friend to my son I still like to set high expectations for him in terms of academic and behavioral performances. As a young child my own mother did this for me, and she always said it was in my best interest. Now that I am grown, and have a child of my own, I fully understand and respect her decision in doing that. Thanks Mom!” What is the number one thing that you want to teach your son? “The number one thing I aim to teach him is to be honest with yourself and to treat the outside world the way you yourself wants to be treated. I do love to teach my son, but actually he teaches me a lot! Being a mother has taught me how to be selfless, giving, caring, and patient. I believe you should always put your child first.” Do you have any advice for other mothers new and current? “Yeah, remember to constantly let your child know how much you love them and make sure they really feel the love.” What did you crave while you were pregnant? “I craved a lot of sweets, and any food with excessive amounts of salt.” Do you have any plans for Mother’s Day? “Yes! I got invited to a Mother’s Day concert at my son’s school. Him and his classmates will be performing for all of the mothers and grandmothers. I’m really excited to attend!”
