  • New Mercedes-Benz CLA: The CLA starts off with a 208-hp 2.0L turbo inline-4 engine rated at 258 lb-ft of torque. Paired with the engine is a 7-speed DCT dual-clutch automatic transmission.
  • New Mercedes-Benz C-Class: The C-Class Sedan offers a variety of engine options; at the base-level, you’ll get a 2.0L turbo inline-4 with 241 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque on tap. The standard transmission is a 9-speed automatic.
  • New Toyota Camry XLE: The Toyota Camry XLE gets a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine rated at 203 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque, making it weaker than both the CLA and C-Class. It also gets an 8-speed automatic.

Safety Features

The 2018 Toyota Camry XLE Sedan comes standard with Toyota Safety Sense P—a driver assist suite. One of its features is a Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection. You can find a similar system on the Mercedes-Benz CLA and C-Class in the form of Active Brake Assist or COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS®, respectively.

Unlike the Camry, however, the CLA and C-Class also include ATTENTION ASSIST®—a driver attention monitor. Eastvale and Rancho Cucamonga drivers who spend a lot time behind the wheel will enjoy the peace of mind this feature affords. Over time, it learns your driving behaviors and alerts you if you show signs of drowsiness.

Luxury Features

The XLE is the Toyota Camry’s range-topping trim. so you’d expect premium features like a sunroof or rain-sensing wipers. Perhaps surprisingly, the Camry XLE doesn’t deliver—at least not when you compare it to the Mercedes-Benz CLA and C-Class. You’ll find the following on the CLA, C-Class, or both:

  • Genuine Wood Trim: The C-Class interior features Natural Grain Brown Ash wood trim for the center floor console, doors, and instrument panel.
  • Memory Settings: Unlike the Camry, the CLA and C-Class offer memory settings for the driver’s seat, side mirrors, and steering column.
  • Power Sunroof: Although optional on the CLA, the C-Class comes equipped with a power sunroof, giving you a skyward view as you cruise through Fontana and Chino.
  • Rain-Sensing Wipers: Standard for the CLA and C-Class, these wipers adjust their frequencies according to rainfall.

At the end of the day, the Toyota Camry may be more affordable than the Mercedes-Benz CLA and C-Class, but it doesn’t offer the same value. You’ll find greater performance, safety, and comfort behind the wheel of a new Mercedes-Benz. For an even closer comparison, see how the CLA 250 vs. C 300 stack up!.
