Traditionally, coupes have two doors and seat four people, while sedans have four doors and seat five. Vehicles like the C-Class, E-Class, and S-Class are available in coupe or sedan body styles, as well as convertible. The right choice for you boils down to ride quality, interior space, and performance.

Coupe vs. Sedan: Ride Quality & Space

  • Ride Quality: Coupes are known for their sporty exterior and interior style; it feels good to drive a coupe because they’re smaller than sedans and lighter on their wheels. In the luxury segment, sedans can be high performing, but the interior focuses more on comfort, technology, and safety features.
  • Space: Due to their size, sedans tend to be more spacious. Take the C 300 Sedan and C 300 Coupe, for example. The C 300 Coupe offers 10.5 cubic feet inside the trunk, while the C 300 Sedan provides up to 12.6 cubic feet. If you need extra space in the trunk, plus seating for five passengers, go with the sedan.

Coupe vs. Sedan: Performance

Sometimes, sedans and coupes share identical specs; sometimes, they don’t. The E 300 Sedan is powered by a 241-hp 2.0L turbo inline-4 engine and can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 6.2 seconds. The E 450 Coupe, on the other hand, gets a 362-hp 3.0L biturbo V6 engine and reaches 60 mph in 5 seconds. In this case, if you want more speed and power, choose the coupe.
