Managing Your Mental Health
Let’s talk about mental health, which is just as important as any other type of health. Managing and keeping your stress level low can be difficult, especially with deadlines, people to please, plus all of the hats that you wear during your day. Responsibilities can build up and stress levels can elevate, so it is important to pay attention to your mental health. Read on for pointers on how to stay cool as a cucumber during important, overwhelming, or anxious times. We want to help you manage your stress the right way.
This is not just for the holistic hippies. Meditation has proven to be amazing for your overall health and can help you manage stress. Meditating 10 minutes in the morning before work or on a 10 minute break during the day can help to keep you calm, cool, and collected. If you try it, we are sure you will feel the benefits right away. Plus, if you doze off, you’re doing it right! Sign me up!- Breathe deeply. This goes hand in hand with meditation but you should remember to do this many times throughout the day. Breathing slowly and deeply can help to slows down heart rate, increases focus and stamina, releases toxins, relieves tension, encoura
ges good posture, and elevates moods. - Think positive thoughts. Studies show that positive thinkers are more resilient to hardships and stressful situations, worry less, have lower rates of depression, have better immune systems, decreased pain sensations, and overall have an increased life span. Positive emotions can undo the effects of stressful and negative experiences. Approach challenges with this thought in mind, “this will accelerate my life, I will get some practice in, I’ll learn how to, it has to be done”. Just by putting a smile on your face, you will start to feel better.
- Learn to say “no.” This one is tough especially when you want to help, but actually can’t. Your time is important and your needs should not suffer for the sake of being nice. Meaningful relationships will understand that you are busy with other obligations. It can be tricky to learn when to say “yes” and when to say “no.” To figure this out, just go with your gut.
- Keep a schedule. In this digital age, most have a computer or smart device with a calendar or planner on it. Of course there is always the hard copy route that you can carry around with you if that is more your speed. Keeping a planner eliminates the stress of disorganization since you will always know when and where to be and what you actually have time to take on. Scheduling appointments is the most basic function for a planner, but it is capable of so much more, such as making to-do lists and noting availability, which can aid you in improved productivity. Make separate to-do lists for work tasks, chores, and errands to complete. Your life will start to feel so organized that you won’t be able to over-schedule yourself.
- Get enough sleep. Sleep is very important to mental and physical function. It is a way for your brain to rejuvenate and it goes far beyond the ability to wake-up in a better mood. Sleep improves memory, allows for better weight control, helps you to think more clearly, increase libido, and strengthens the immune system. Getting enough sleep will help you in every aspect of your life and implementing what is discussed above will help you get better quality sleep.
That’s it! Now you can go forth by starting with your favorite tips and then slowly implement more as your good habits start to form. You are on your way to living a longer, happier, stress-free life! You’re welcome.
