Motorists everywhere are delighting in a sleek, muscular new midsize SUV from Mercedes-Benz: the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC. Reviews have been favorable for this luxury vehicle, which offers sportiness, efficiency, and sophistication all in one exceptional package. Check out what the experts had to say before taking it for a spin at Mercedes-Benz of Ontario.

The Reviews Are In

Among the GLC’s attributes, critics have lauded its posh amenities, lighter structure, and the fact that it borrows a great deal from the Mercedes C-Class models, including much of the C-Class underpinnings, design, and features, such as Sport packaging and full LED lighting. However, the GLC also offers larger dimensions than the C-Class as well as a higher ceiling and a more vertical windshield, creating the feeling of greater space. A panorama sunroof also creates a more open, spacious feeling. Car and Driver calls the GLC’s rear seat “limo-like” in comparison to the rear seats found in its predecessor.

Car and Driver’s reviewer also found good things to say about the performance aspect of the C-Class, stating: “What we really came to find out is how well the U.S.-spec four-banger can handle our roads and traffic. In the end, while we’re always up for more power—an AMG® Sport model is reportedly on the way, likely to share the C 450 AMG’s® 362-hp turbo V6—we are inclined to say that the direct-injected 2.0L four strikes exactly the right balance between power and efficiency.”

Plenty of Elbow Room

Another factor critics like is that the GLC, as it replaces the outgoing GLK, is improving on the already strong elements of the GLK. For instance, roominess is not an issue in the stretched-out GLC.

“Despite its sleeker and more elegant appearance, there’s no sacrifice in cabin space,” an Autoweek reviewer wrote of the GLC. “Leg room and headroom in the rear seats are both abundant – in fact, the rear is spacious enough to fit three full-grown adults … comfortably. Even with the optional panoramic roof, headroom should not be an issue for those of taller stature.” The reviewer further called the GLC “an off-road capable C-Class luxe-people hauler.”

The Car Connection listed the GLC as a “Best Car to Buy” nominee for 2016, saying of the GLC: “As a tangential—and far more sophisticated—replacement for the GLK, the savvy 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC is a far better match for American wants and needs.”
