When you purchase new tires for your Mercedes-Benz, your technician weighs the wheels, measuring them to verify they’re balanced correctly. This is done to ensure that the vehicle’s ride is optimized. If the job isn’t done properly, the unbalanced tires can cause excessive wheel vibration, which can lead to damage to the vehicle’s suspension, throw the car out of alignment, and cause the tires to wear out much sooner than they should. In extreme cases, unbalanced tires can even compromise the vehicle’s ability to turn properly, putting cabin occupants at risk.
It only takes a few ounces of pressure in the wrong place to throw a tire out of balance. If your vehicle begins vibrating at certain speeds, emits an odd hum as you accelerate, or the steering wheel begins to vibrate as your speed increases, you may be dealing with unbalanced tires.
